When dealing with any sort of surgery, it’s not uncommon for prospective patients to be wary of proceeding because they might experience some degree of pain. Rhinoplasty procedures are no exception. Patients that are considering this procedure tend to be concerned about the packaging which surgeons use to envelop the nose once the procedure is complete. Although the installation of the packaging is pain free, considering that the patient is under anesthesia, removal can sometimes be painful. Once the lining has been properly adjusted, it needs to be pressed against the bone as to allow it to regain contact. More recently, surgeons have been able to mitigate the use of packaging for such purposes by instead using a process known as quilting. The quilting technique allows doctor’s to sew the lining into place. As one might imagine, this occurs while the patient is sedated under anesthesia.

There is no need for most patients to fear packaging during the procedure as it is often not a necessity. Technology has nearly eliminated the need for packaging in this procedure and thus has reduced the pain which patients need to experiment.
