It is estimated that around 50 percent of men will suffer some form of balding and most of them will hate it. For this reason baldness cures, particularly on the Internet, are big business. Baldness cures aren’t cheap and so the market for hair loss treatments is worth hundreds of millions of dollars or more. Where there is that much money at stake there will be many products to fill that demand. But that doesn’t mean that all of them work or even that they would be safe for you to use.

There is very little regulation of the Internet and anyone can design a website to sell a cure for baldness without being required to show that it is safe or that it reverses hair loss. On the Internet it’s buyer beware.

Buying baldness cures on the Internet can be an easy way to get ripped off. There’s a good chance they won’t grow more hair on your head and they may well be harmful to your health and wallet. So should you just forget about finding a good cure for hair loss?

Not at all. We have an organization whose job it is to regulate these things. The FDA has approved two products to use as men’s hair loss treatments. Both these products have been demonstrated to the satisfaction of the FDA to work to counter male balding, including in cases of male pattern baldness, because that causes over 90 percent of men’s balding.

We can fairly assume that if the FDA is satisfied that these products work as baldness cures there is sufficient evidence that this is the case. In fact there are scientific studies demonstrating that these products work as a cure for baldness. Whilst that may be the case they will not work for everybody and no product works as a baldness cure for everybody.

These 2 baldness cures are finasteride, marketed as Propecia, and minoxidil. Only minoxidil is approved to use as a baldness cure for women because finasteride has been shown to have serious side effects when used by women. Finasteride can also have some side effects when used as a hair loss treatment by men including loss of libido.

Minoxidil is approved for use as a hair loss treatment by both men and women. It is thought that it improves hair growth by improving the blood flow to the hair follicle thereby increasing the flow of nutrients to the follicle. In cases of male pattern baldness a hormone restricts the ability of hair follicles to absorb nutrients and so increasing the flow of nutrients would improve hair growth it would seem.

And whilst it is clear that minoxidil on its own works as a hair loss treatment one company has seen an opportunity to improve the results and has combined minoxidil with essential hair nutrients to maximize the chances that their hair follicles will absorb enough nutrients to start to regrow hair.

This approach seems more effective than selling minoxidil for use on its own.

So if you’re looking for baldness cures on the Internet remember to beware. Whilst there are many cures for baldness available only 2 have been approved by the FDA as a hair loss treatment for men. Minoxidil is the only product approved as a male pattern baldness cure and also as a hair loss treatment for women.
