Nose Surgery and Insurance

A countless number of people have avoided undergoing a rhinoplasty procedure because they couldn’t afford the exorbitant costs associated with the surgery. What most people don’t know is that insurance companies will, in some circumstances, cover the cost a rhinoplasty procedure, at least partially.

Individuals aspiring to receive this procedure for mere aesthetic purposes have little hope in obtaining coverage. Insurance companies will deny coverage for a surgery that is merely elective. Any variables that render the treatment a medical necessity in your particular circumstances are grounds for full or partial coverage.

Those hoping to receive the procedure to enhance the functionality of their nose may be covered. The patient him or herself, however, will not be reporting directly to the insurance company. Rather, their doctor will need to speak with the carrier to inform them of the patient’s circumstances. Paperwork will likely be involved, however, it will be completed by your physician. Once everything is submitted for review, it will be up to the insurance company to either approve or deny the claim.

If the insurance company is furnished with sufficient evidence indicating that the procedure will improve the policy holder’s overall health, they will likely piggyback the cost. A common problem that plagues those considering the procedure is a nasal deformity (acquired from injury or birth) that is somehow obstructing air flow. This scenario redefines the procedure as being a constructive one. It is best to start handling the insurance coverage aspect well before you intend to receive the procedure. It can take time before all the details are ironed out.

Headaches and breathing issues are among the most typical problems those electing to undergo this surgery for medical purposes face. To clear a widespread misconception, a rhinoplasty will not correct a deviated septum. Rather, a septoplasty is needed. This procedure is not cosmetic in nature. Nose deformities that obstruct proper airflow can trigger the development of a number of different conditions, wherein the patient is placed in danger and discomfort. Anyone who is facing such circumstances has a good chance at obtaining coverage.

While you and your doctor may present a convincing argument to the insurance company, they may still deny your claim. Receiving a denial letter in the mailbox does not mark the end of your journey towards obtaining coverage. You can pursue an appeal with the company in hopes of finally obtaining coverage.

Protocols for going about this can widely vary, hence, you should conduct the needed research. Try to get as familiarized as possible with your insurance policy and thereafter correspond with the correct parties to pursue an appeal. Be ready to provide your carrier with additional documentation if requested.

Be sure to have any pertinent material on-hand to forward to your insurance company. Don’t be lazy, as it is really not in your best interest to piggyback the cost of the procedure. The entire process can be time consuming, however, in the end it can be equally as rewarding.

Abdominoplasty

abdominoplastyA tummy tuck, also called abdominoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure performed by plastic surgeons in Phoenix, that is designed to minimize excess fat and skin in the abdominal area. This accumulation of tissue can occur due to genetics, aging, one or more pregnancies, or weight loss. Abdominal muscles can also be firmed and tightened during the surgery to give patients a smoother and more toned midsection.

Plastic surgeons in Phoenix can choose one of several available procedures to meet their patients’ needs. Your surgeon will help you to select the right procedure for you based on factors such as your abdomen size and shape and the amount of tissue you wish to have removed. The right procedure for you will give you the desired results without undue scarring. Abdominoplasty options include the following: traditional , mini tummy tuck, endoscopic and a technique known as an extended tummy tuck.

Traditional tummy tucks works well for men and women with a medium to large amount of excess skin and tissue in the abdominal area. First, a horizontal cut is made in the lower pubic area. Second, the belly button is moved and the abdominal walls are tightened. Any undesirable fat and tissue is then surgically removed. Next, the cosmetic surgeon pulls down the remaining skin to create a new belly-button and close up the incision. Drainage tubes will likely be used to drain fluids, which can accumulate around the incision site and inhibit healing.

Mini tummy tuck surgery may be recommended for people without much excess skin or protruding muscle. Surgeons make a small horizontal scar in the pubic area, but do not typically remove or reposition the navel. Other than that, this technique is similar to the traditional tummy tuck.

Extended abdominoplasty is a variation of abdominoplasty surgery that is often recommended for patients who have complaints about the lower back and sides (love handles) as well as the tummy area. A longer incision extending behind the hips is necessary for this procedure. The plastic surgeon removes skin and fat from the entire area, tightens the abdominal muscles, and repositions or reconstructs the navel.

Endoscopic abdominoplasty is for patients with protruding abdominal muscles but not a lot of excess skin may benefit from an endoscopic abdominoplasty. Skin is not removed and scarring is minimal with this less invasive tummy tuck procedure. The cosmetic surgeon makes several small incisions in the abdominal area and inserts long, thin instruments to tighten and suture the abdominal muscles.

Is Click Fraud Hurting Your Medical Practice?

If you’re one of the tens of thousands of cosmetic medical practices, medical spas or laser clinics advertising online with Google Adwords or Yahoo, don’t be surprised to find that at least some of the money you’re paying every month is sucked out of your marketing fund by click fraud.

Don’t think it’s happening to your skin clinic, med spa or laser clinic? Here’s a quote from Michael Caruso, CEO of click fraud services vendor ClickFacts in an interview with Marketing Sherpa:

In some particularly fraud prone verticals such as finance, class action lawsuits and medical, ClickFacts sees rates in the 30%-45% range. These are all categories that see high keyword pricing in the auction model. That makes them particularly tasty for click fraud artists. “If you can make more money from the dark side than the light side of search, there are plenty of people who will take advantage. Plus, it’s not even technically illegal yet.

Two ways that your plastic surgery or medical spa marketing budget is being drained:

Competitors who see your ad simply click on it, draining your advertising dollars, or ‘affiliate’ sites are set up that run your ads where they are clicked on by bots or employees. These sites are the most damaging since you’re paying for every click without any return. Click fraud for medical spas can be very lucrative since medspas are becoming such a competitive market and the payment per click can be as high as $4-5.

Unfortunately, to keep your budget safe you have very few tools. Google just gave advertisers $90 million to compensate for click fraud as the result of a class action suit but you can bet they’re not that Google’s not interested in your individual account. Especially since they’re making money from click fraud when your ads are clicked on.

Start by limiting your exposure to click fraud. If your med spa, laser clinic or skin clinic is still running an Adwords or Yahoo campaign, they allow you to limit the maximum amount you spend in a day. Take advantage of this feature by limiting your maximum cost to what you can afford to spend. You can also look for the tracks of click fraud by examining the reports you might have available to you. Multiple clicks coming from the same IP address are a sure sign of fraud.

Malaysia has become such a haven for click fraud ’sweat-shops’ that clicks generated there are completely discounted by Google and Malaysian accounts for Adwords or Adsense are routinely turned down.

If you’re going to run search ads, try to protect your dermatology or plastic surgery clinic. You can be sure that you’re the only one trying to.

Popularity of Rhinoplasty Surgery Among Men

Society typically doesn’t consider men to be too fond of cosmetic surgery procedures. However, in recent years, males have started to explore various treatments offered under this field of medicine, among them, the rhinoplasty procedure. Rhinoplasties, or nose jobs, are among one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures, designed to enhance the aesthetic appeal and sometimes functional performance of the nose. A good number of men receive this surgery on a yearly basis and are usually very satisfied with the results.

Despite what some may think, males can be just as insecure about their image as women. If you think men are indifferent to the images they see in magazines of other males with ripped bodies and bulging arms, you are sorely mistaken. In an effort to rid themselves of their insecurity, a large number of men have turned to plastic surgery for answers. Not surprisingly, many have found rhinoplasty surgery to be their best bet in enhancing their image.

One of the common features we associate with males is a defining nose. When some men glance in the mirror and notice they have a relatively small nose, they begin to loose a bit of self-esteem. Genetics are not the only thing that come into play when sculpting a man’s nose. Considering that boys will be boys during childhood, it’s not uncommon to see a male with a disfigured nose due to childhood battles or athletic accidents. Some men grow into their disfigured nose and begin to appreciate it. Others, however, become repelled by the look and feel of their nose.

Since society has been more active than ever in impressing its views of what a man should look and act like, its no surprise that more men are taking an interest to their nose. The small bump which didn’t really matter in the past has no grown to a big cause for concern.

Aesthetics are not always involved when choosing to undergo a rhinoplasty. Some men require the surgery to improve their breathing. These breathing problems might have been present from birth or arrived as a result of a childhood incident.

The rhinoplasty procedure can repair a variety of deformities which people are plagued with. A patient’s nose can be rendered larger or smaller, its tip or nostrils can be adjusted for a more favorable appearance, and finally any bumps can be removed to create a more pleasant appearance. The procedure has proven effective in treating all of these deformities.

Any patient who hopes for a pleasant rhinoplasty experience should be prepared to conduct an adequate amount of research in locating a surgeon. This research should include not only compiling a list of promising candidates, but also interviewing these candidates to find which one is more suitable for their needs. Too many patients make the mistake of hunting for the cheapest surgeon. You get what you may for with cosmetic surgery, thus, take a look at all the factors involved, not just price.

There are obviously some factors which you want to consider aside from price including the experience of the doctor in performing the procedure, the quality of his facility and equipment, as well as his/her ability to deal with patients and make them feel comfortable. This can be demanding of large amounts of time, however, the rewards that can await you in the end will be well worth it. You don’t want to end up in the hands of an inexperienced surgeon simply because you placed far too much emphasis on price, as opposed to taking a more comprehensive viewpoint.

Rhinoplasty Procedure Types

Many people can quickly associate a rhinoplasty procedure with nose surgery, however, only a handful of people actually know the various rhinoplasty procedures which are available and what each respective one entails.

The steps to obtaining a rhinoplasty are as follows. First you schedule an appointment for a consultation with a plastic surgeon. During this appointment, the surgeon will conduct an examination will speak to you about your goals. If everything works out as planned, you will be slated to receive the procedure. On operation day, you will be wheeled into the operating room and given local anesthesia. This will put you to sleep during the procedure. Some rhinoplasty procedures make use of other types of anesthesia, depending on the extent of the operation as well as the patient’s medical history. Further anesthesia may be issued to the operation site alongside other medications designed to limit blood flow to the area during the procedure.

Only two types of rhinoplasty procedures currently exist: internal and external. Both of these procedures have their respective perks and drawbacks. Your doctor should elaborate on these during your consultation. Both of these procedures are equally effective in garnering goods results. The end outcome of the surgery, regardless of what specific technique is used, rests on the skill of the surgeon and a number of other factors. The expectations of the patient also come into play.

The external rhinoplasty procedure calls for an incision on the outside of the nose. To hide any scarring, an incision is typically made at the intersection of the nose with the face. Once inside the nose, the surgeon can make any necessary adjustments to achieve what he/she discussed with the patient. There are some variations of the external rhinoplasty that call for incisions in other areas. These are performed on a case-by-case basis depending on how much adjustment is required.

The internal rhinoplasty, as its name implies, calls for an internal incision within the nose. This type of procedure is reserved for patients who require a limited amount of work. Space is limited as well as maneuverability. No visible scars are made during this procedure, which is a tremendous advantage for many patients. Once the surgeon has made the incision, he/she proceeds to work and makes any necessary adjustments.

Many rhinoplasty surgeons consider photographs and other reference material to be extremely helpful in guiding their work amidst the procedure. A large number of surgeons are meticulous and wrap up the procedure having done exactly as they talked with the patient. When the surgeon has finished his/her work, they will place sutures at the incision site. A splint is then fitted on the patient’s nose.

You will return to your surgeon’s office for a follow-up visit wherein this splint will be removed. Don’t expect to see your new nose just yet. Swelling and discoloration will obscure any of the results of the operation. However, in a few weeks, you will be greeted with your new nose. Be patient and follow your surgeon’s instructions during the recovery period. You will be happy that you did.
